The Fire Brigades Union was founded in 1918. It has developed into a strong, professional organization. It is the only NJC recognized representative body for uniformed personnel within Royal Berkshire Fire & Rescue Service. At the time of writing, in Royal Berkshire the following approximate proportions of employees are FBU members:
